What is a Certified ServSafe Instructor?
Certified ServSafe Instructors teach ServSafe Food Safety Manager training courses. While providing classroom instruction, Instructors will solely be serving in the role as an Instructor; they do not administer Exams. An Instructor is responsible for ensuring that these important lessons are taught in a clear and consistent manner. Instructors have Web access to benefits, special tools, information and resources.
Instructor Requirements
A current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
Don’t have a current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification?
A high school diploma or GED Meet one of the following professional experience or advanced education requirements:
Professional experience
- Six months teaching/training experience Required: You must provide contact information for at least one individual who endorses your training skills based on a previous training experience
- Have been hired into a training role

- One year of experience working in a foodservice operations environment Required: At a point in the process, you will be required to describe your work experience and provide contact information for someone who can confirm your work experience
- Employed as a health inspector or equivalent by a state or local health department Required: At a point in the process, you will be required to describe your work experience and provide contact information for someone who can confirm your work experience
- Registered Sanitarian, Registered Dietician, or equivalent Required: At a point in the process, you will be required to describe your work experience and provide contact information for someone who can confirm your work experience
Advanced education requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in food science, food technology, epidemiology, environmental health, or public health from an accredited university or college Required: You must provide contact information for the education institution
- Meet your state’s requirements
- Visit the state requirements section or check with your local public health department to determine if your state has additional Instructor requirements.
Instructor Process
Once you select a role and login to www.ServSafe.com, you can complete the easy four-step process below. Note: Use the same login you created to check your Exam score.
- Have a current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
- Don’t have a current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification?
- Pass the ServSafe Online Advanced Test with a score of 90 or higher (HRBAudit Requirement)
- Interview with HRBAudit.
- Take the Instructor Tutorial
- Complete the Application and agree to the terms of the Performance Agreement
- Sign an independent contractor agreement & non-compete contract with HRBAudit.
- Observe/Participate Training Session with HRBAudit.
- Schedule classes with HRBAudit
- Teach first class.
